Exciting days are ahead! Thinking about the birth of my little ones always brings a smile to my face. It is amazing how you are immediately filled with more love than you know what to do with as you gaze upon them for the first time. If you have a little one on the way, Congratulations! Now, let me share with you the magic of 10. The first 10 days after your baby is born is when you need to (not schedule but actually) have your newborn session. I know, I know! You will not have lost your baby weight and will still be recovering from delivery. It is tough… trust me I know! After Emilyn was born I took 3 days to recover all the while hearing the clock ticking in my head. Tick Tock, Tick Tock, I am running out of time! I had oodles of ideas for photos I wanted to take of her and I knew I only had 7 days left to capture them.
So why is it 10? I have no idea why it seems 10 days is always the cut off. It is during those first days that your baby will be super sleepy and allow me to pose them. They still have that natural instinct to curl up small which is adorable in photos. They change so quickly it is important to capture these first moments in the world. Soon they will lose their fuzzy hair, start to stretch out, wake easily and be harder to settle down into the props and poses. Of course that doesn’t mean that you cannot take photos after 10 days… it just means that the types of poses I will be able to capture will be different.

This photo was taken when Emilyn was 5 days old by a friend of mine and great photographer, Marian Lozano. I love this one. She put Emilyn in a stocking that was made for me by my great grandmother. It is not only adorable but sentimental.
Six days old…
These were taken on day 10. It was an all day project to get this shot. I had a vision of having my little girl hanging under a snow covered evergreen tree. Of course I was not going to have her out in the freezing cold so I had my husband cut down some branches, my mom went out looking for fake snow to spray on them and I put everything together. I love how it turned out : )
