The big day is over and married life has settled in. You receive your wedding album and your digital negatives, Now What? This is a very important question. Your digital negatives are your one and only copy of all of your wedding photos. The first thing you should do is protect them.
Your first step? Make a few copies of your dvds and send them out to family for safe keeping. That way if your disks were to get scratched or be damaged by fire or other casualty, you will have additional copies in safe keeping.
Some things to keep in mind when trying to view or copy the dvds…
Your wedding photos are all high resolution images. I am usually sending you two to three dvds, so we are talking 9 – 14 GIGS of information. Make certain if you are copying the files to your computer or an external drive that it can handle all this information and has the space to store it. You may also want to consider copying the files in smaller batches, so as not to tax and older computer.
Slideshow anyone? I get this question all the time. The files I am giving you are way to large to run on a slideshow. If you have your heart set on it, pick your favorite photos and resize them to computer screen resolution. That will keep your computer singing along with you as you relive your favorite moments.
My last tip is to make your copies right away. Don’t test fate. We all think nothing will happen and that we will be super careful not to scratch the dvds. I have heard crazy stories of dogs chewing on the disks, accidental droppings and moving and the dvds get lost in never never land. Make your copies right away and breathe a sigh of relief.
